Five Frank Lloyd Wright Homes For Sale in the Chicago Area

New, 9 comments

A handful of Frank Lloyd Wright homes are currently for sale in the Chicago suburbs, and they share some common (non-architectural) features: Almost all of them have been on the market for over a year, and most have seen serious price reductions in that time. For an entry-level Wright, you can snatch up the Furbeck House in Oak Park for $799K; or, if you have some serious money to throw around, you can re-integrate the main Coonley House with its bedroom wing (which is being sold separately) for about $4 million.

1. The Home: Avery Coonley House
The Listing: 281 Bloomingbank Rd., Riverside, IL [Baird & Warner]
The Price: $2,890,000
The Skinny: One of the biggest and most impressive FLW homes in the Chicago area, the recently-rehabbed Coonley House was built in 1907 and features Jens Jenson landscaping and a pond.

2. The Home: Coonley House Bedroom Wing
The Listing: 300 Scottswood Rd., Riverside, IL [Burlington Realty]
The Price: $1,299,000
The Skinny: The bedroom wing from the Coonley estate was cut off from the main house and has been on and off the market for the past two years. The home has three bedrooms and 3.5 baths, and it looks like the kitchen has been updated recently.

3. The Home: Gridley Residence
The Listing: 637 N. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL [Coldwell Banker]
The Price: $1,450,000
The Skinny: Since it hit the market in 2009, the 5,100-square-foot Gridley Residence has been reduced by more than $100,000. The home sits on a 2.3-acre plot with a small ravine.

4. The Home: William E. Martin House
The Listing: 636 N. East Ave., Oak Park, IL [Better Homes and Gardens]
The Price: $1,295,000
The Skinny: The price of the Martin House has been reduced three times by a total of $280K since it hit the market last year. The home has 4,300 square feet of floor space and a koi pond.

5. The Home: George Furbeck House
The Listing: 223 N. Euclid Ave., Oak Park, IL [Coldwell Banker]
The Price: $799,000
The Skinny: This 3,000-square-foot home is from Wright's "experimental and transitional phase." It came on the market last spring and was just re-listed last week with a hefty price reduction.
