Two weeks after Sun-Times reporter David Roeder ran a story claiming that Jeanne Gang's Ford Calumet Environmental Center would likely be scrapped Blair Kamin takes a closer look at the facts. His findings: The city only has about $10 million to spend on the building, while total building costs (including $6 million already spent) are estimated at $27 million. That means they're short at least $10M for the project. DOE Commissioner Suzanne Malec-McKenna tells Kamin that she'll meet with Studio Gang to ask them to scale the project back a bit. "We're committed to the design," Malec-McKenna told Kamin. "We just may need to do it for less money." [Cityscapes]
