Storefront Converted to Impressive Single-Family in North Center

New, 1 comment

There are scores of former storefronts that have been converted to living space in Chicago's neighborhoods, but few pull it off as well as this home in North Center. The former entryway at Barry and Leavitt has been filled in with attractive mosaic glass block, and light also streams in from large skylights above the timber beams. The long, narrow hallway connecting the living room to the kitchen has a barrel ceiling, and the mosaic glass and barrel ceiling continue in one of the two full baths. Stairs from the kitchen lead to a large roof deck. In all, it looks like a clever use of space. According to BlockShopper, the home has 2,140 square feet of living space, and it last sold for $720,000 in 2005. It came back on the market yesterday for $750,000.
