Lincoln Parkers to Protest Stadium Lights

Nothing ever seems to happen quietly in the 43rd Ward. Francis W. Parker School recently announced plans to add stadium lighting and artificial turf to its field, and you better believe that the community won't let that happen without a fight. The lights, which one neighbor likened to "the part where the aliens land" in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, would stay on as late as 9 p.m. for up to 100 nights per year. Greg Hinz reports that neighbors will host a protest meeting next Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the Notebaert Nature Museum. [Crain's]
