Cracking the Spire

Want to relive the Chicago Spire's slow death? John Slania wrote an article about the Spire's "hole truth," chronicling developer Garrett Kelleher's grand ambitions and ultimate failure to build the city's tallest building. If you've been following the Spire for the past several years, there isn't much new information in there, but there are a few interesting anecdotes, like the one from Streeterville Properties owner Gail Spreen, who recalled Kelleher knocking over and cracking a glass model of the spire (an omen!): "I was thinking, I'm so glad it wasn't me who knocked it over," Spreen said. "He didn't blow up at all. He calmly picked it up and moved on." [Time Out Chicago]
