A week after plans for the pricey Navy Pier Flyover were revealed, CDOT is taking another step towards improving the city's bike infrastructure. The city received a $3.2-million federal grant to build a "cycle track," which is a bike lane that's protected from car traffic by a physical barrier, on Stony Island between 69th and 77th streets. Cycle tracks are popular in cities like Amsterdam and Copenhagen, but this is Chicago's first experiment with them. Construction of the Stony Island bike path is scheduled for 2014. [Trib]
