Business Migranes

Some Hyde Park stores are trying to cope with loss of business since the start of the Harper Court redevelopment construction, according to CBS. Harper Court, which Curbed has written extensively about, is a U of C-spearheaded development that will include a 130-room Hyatt hotel, new retail, and a movie theater. In addition to the businesses that were displaced by the demolition of old structures, nearby businesses are suffering thanks to what the owners claim is the University's callous construction preparations that have all but erased foot traffic from the North side of 53rd, near the site. U of C bought the old Harper Court in 2008, seeking to "revitalize" 53rd Street. There were roughly two dozen small businesses in the Court around that time. [CBS]
