Green and Suburban

La Grange's very first LEED-destined house is under assembly. Dennis Rodkin profiles the property in today's Deal Estate column. It flaunts no radical style—blending with the traditional homes on the block—but distinguishes itself quietly when it comes to energy usage, recycled building material, and better paints. Tony and Janet Lewandowski have built houses before but this is the first instance of scaling back, in size, cost, and resource use. They attribute the new impetus on 'green' to personal experience that presented them with a question: "What are we leaving for our children?" Alas, if only such thinking were more contagious.
