Branding the City: One Designer's Community Logos

New, 2 comments

Lifelong Chicagoan Steve Shanabruch has embarked on a personal quest to craft logos for the 77 community areas (and some better-known neighborhoods) that add up to one happy Chicago. He's currently got 15, but tells Curbed he plans on posting an average of three per week. Shanabruch takes pains to frame his design adventure as just "one designer's take on Chicago", and draws either from intimate knowledge— in the case of past and present stomping grounds— or from research and conversations with residents. In other words, consider his work informed. There doesn't appear to be a commercial motive. It all stems from love, claims the artist. Head on over to The Chicago Neighborhoods to see which essences jibe and which don't.
