Cleaning Up After The Blues Brothers

New, 1 comment

The Dixie Square Mall, dead since before The Blues Brothers trashed it, may finally get demolished so that Harvey may have one less obstruction to economic development. The Tribune reports, with original reporting by the Southtown Star, that the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association is ready to approve a contract for demolition. Vacant since 1979, work to clear the property abruptly ceased in 2005 due to asbestos problems. Gov. Pat Quinn has allocated $4 million for the demolition. Some things aren't worth keeping around.
