Murals, Murals, Murals

It's been 40 years since artists banded together to form the Chicago Mural Group. Partnering with communities, the group set out to bring murals to the far reaches of the city. Since its mural-centric beginnings, the group has been re-branded the Chicago Public Art Group and has grown to produce trickier stuff like mosaics and sculpture. Its latest, in an underpass near Columbus Dr. just North of Roosevelt, is a gigantic mosaic aptly named "Aqua Interlude & Reflection". The project tapped high school volunteers in keeping with the group's educational and local-minded philosophy. The group has singled out the Bloomingdale Trail's 35 underpasses as the next frontier, especially if the trail conversion gets off the ground. [Trib]
