Midway can clear land beyond its property line, so says the City. The hotly disputed plan to condemn four properties at the end of a runway—a gas station, closeout retailer, drug store, and popular breakfast joint—has been given the go-ahead by a city council committee. The death of a six-year-old, struck by a skidding airplane several years back, and another recent close call lent urgency to the call for safer runway clearance.
