Old Prentice stakeholders are in stalemate. The building's last tenant, the Stone Institute of Psychiatry, moved out in September but when pressed on its plans for the site, Northwestern has no details to share other than its desire to rid itself of the Bertrand Goldberg icon. The city, meanwhile, won't allow it unless there's a clear ready-to-build scheme for the site. It would rather not be responsible for a long-standing vacant lot in a rich, touristy area. So, the only people standing up for the building on its merits are preservationists. With total vacancy, some suspect Northwestern to let the structure rot in order to whip up sympathy for demolition. [Cityscapes]
