Preservation Watch

The old Brand Brewery Complex at Elston and Leavitt that's been targeted for demolition to make way for a possible HHGregg store has attracted preservationist attention. Expectations were that the long-defunct complex would get new life when the property was listed last year for $5.85M. The listing talked up the structural soundness and mused on its possibilities. Instead, a report surfaced last month in Our Urban Times that buyer Key Development Partners preferred demolition to re-use. Their plan fits nicely with HHGregg's expansionist agenda for the region. A coalition is forming around the issue, and plans to hold a public meeting next Monday at Revolution Brewing. [CBS]
