A tipster led us to this, but anyone walking nearby would know that demolition of the 19th century bank building is underway at 501 N Clark. Curbed shot down there today and found an enthralled lunch-time crowd chowing down on the spectacle. Our tipster also wanted to know what was slated for this prime location, so we visited the website of Alderman Brendan Reilly and, in the works since '09, are plans for a massive hotel conglomeration. A three-building 621-room stockpile, to be exact. A rendering for one of the buildings, designed by HOK architects, is on view here. Curbed isn't sure just what stage planning is at, but we'll be looking into it.
