Renters' Rights

Crain's is reporting that the city is getting sued by a group of peeved condo owners at 30 E Huron over new restrictions on short-term vacation rentals. Vacation rentals are booming these days, as owners seek to make back some money on their devaluing units. Vacationers like it, in turn, as an often nicer, cheaper alternative to hotels. But many neighbors dislike sharing their hallways with the transients. The lawsuit came about after the city cited some of 30 E Huron's owners for violating the new regulation. The city's underlying cause for alarm: lost hotel tax revenue. [Crain's]
