The Bloomingdale Trail, darling of the city's planners and recreators, is close to securing tens of millions in federal funding, according to The Tribune's Blair Kamin. The money, available through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement program, would join with 20% matching state and local funds to total $46 million. "It's real money," Janet Attarian, a project director for the Chicago Department of Transportation, tells The Trib. "This is obviously a huge leap forward for the project." The first stage of development would lay down the bike path. Recent design charrettes have been ironing out the appropriate balance of pedestrian and bicyclist uses. [Trib]
