Northwestern bowed a little to neighborhood demands over its proposed Outpatient Facility. At a Streeterville community meeting, NU agreed to move its loading bays away from sidewalks, eliminated its 10th floor skybridge (one of three), and added two floors of "public" and retail space. The Chicago Architecture Blog makes a forceful case that NU is nevertheless adding to its legacy of hostile design by making retail spaces hard to reach (and thus hard to lease), and expanding its isolating forest of skyway-linked buildings.
