John Hughes' Mega-Mansion Lists for $5.89M

New, 2 comments

John Hughes went too soon, suffering a fatal heart attack in 2009 at age 59. Not surprisingly, his widow Nancy Hughes, has listed their Lake Forest mansion. According to Bob Goldsborough of the Tribune, Nancy bought an English country-style home in late 2009 just three blocks away. Built in 1930, the sprawling 11,000 sq. ft. home is a shrine to the deacon of 80s popular cinema and to Lake Forest's centrality in Hughes' films. Many a scene was shot in the general vicinity. A major addition in 1992 brought the house to its present state with six bedrooms, six baths, four half-baths, six fireplaces, and a three-car garage. A wild medley of building materials and ornament "create a rich architectural vocabulary rarely seen today," raves the listing. The property itself is a sparsely wooded 2.1 acres with a pool. Asking $5.89M, it went to market yesterday.
