Preservation Watch

On a street pocked with renovations, alterations, and excavations, there's one standout property whose future lies in the balance. 2436 N Orchard St. in Lincoln Park, sold last month for $950K and awaits some type of reconfiguring. A gorgeous 1870's wood-frame house, its insides are gutted but, before anything can happen to the exterior, the legality of the Arlington-Deming Landmark District must get sorted out. The latest we've heard, from Eric Rojas at The Chicago Real Estate Local, is that it's still under review. We couldn't find any further status report through the city's landmark commission. If the preservation motion is upheld, at a minimum, any demolition would have to keep hold of the facade. [Chicago Real Estate Local]
