If you're heading over to Garfield Park, as an official neighborhood stop of Open House Chicago, be sure to visit the old Sears Catalogue Plant and the original Sears Tower, a grandiose 14-story testament to the company's glory days. Alan G. Brake of the Tribune also suggests checking out Homan Square, a mixed-use development built on old Sears acreage. And definitely visit Power House High School, a LEED Platinum adaptive reuse of another old Sears building, complete with coal chutes, turbines and other industrial relics. It'll be a busy day!
