Federal Money for Federal Center Rehab

The federal government is pouring $276 million into renovating the Mies van der Rohe-designed Chicago Federal Center, Blair Kamin reports. The money will be spent on expanding Federal Plaza to into a former department store on State Street, making the center more energy-efficient, and renovating the Dirksen courthouse building. Ghafari Associates is doing the plaza rehab, 4240 Architecture is redesigning the old department store, and SOM is doing the Dirksen building rehab. [Cityscapes]
