Does Englewood Need a Walmart?

That's what 16th ward aldermanic candidate Hal Baskin wants. Englewood is plagued by two chronic problems: crime and lack of jobs. Adding a Walmart to the 'hood isn't likely to prevent crime, but it would provide jobs that could keep people off the streets, or so the logic goes. For a case study of how Walmart might impact the community, the Reporter looked at Austin, a community that, despite Emma Watts' cheer-leading, has actually lost 2,704 jobs since Walmart came to town.
