Whew, that was quick! One day after Crain's broke the story, 40 condo owners from R+D659 showed up at a ward meeting to confront 27th Ward Ald. Walter Burnett about developer Mesirow Financial's plan to lease unsold condos to recovering mental health patients. ("Folks seem to be terrified," Burnett told Crain's.) The condo board already ruled against the proposal, and their lawyer is tossing around scary words like "litigation." Burnett has told the developers that they have to meet with building residents to discuss the plan, or else he'll block it. Mesirow hasn't decided whether to even bother.
