HYDE PARK: The University of Chicago has announced that it will renovate the exterior of the the 98-year-old Harper Theater. Interior work has already begun on the 13,000-square-foot theater, and exterior renovation work is set to begin in two weeks. [Hyde Park Herald]

NEAR WEST SIDE: Costco is coming! Love it or hate it, it looks like the big box retailer will start building a 150,000-square-foot store soon on the vacant land on the 1400 block of South Ashland. The city council is expected to approve tax breaks for Costco tomorrow, and if everything goes according to plan, site prep will begin this summer and construction will start in the spring of 2012.
