Lawrence Avenue To Test "Road Diet"

"You can't build your way out of congestion," urbanists often argue. But can you build your way to a more pleasant pedestrian experience by slimming roads? That's what Lincoln Square residents will find out, when the city puts Lawrence Avenue on a "road diet," reducing the number of car lanes from 4 to 3, adding bike lanes, widening sidewalks, and planting trees. Construction on the new Lawrence streetscape could begin next year. [Chicago Tribune]
