Landmark Prairie Style Still For Sale in South Shore

Howdja like to live in a house that has its own Wikipedia entry? Located in South Shore, the John Van Bergen-designed Allen Miller House has been on the market for almost a year, and it has seen five small price reductions, to its current listing price of $449,900. The 2,200 square-foot home was built in 1916 and upgraded in 2007. "Van Bergen's first scheme for the house included a "moat" around the fireplace like Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana and Barnsdall houses," according to one source. "This idea was rejected by the Millers." Van Bergen isn't the most well-known of the Prairie Style architects, but he worked for Frank Lloyd Wright in the heyday of the 1910s, overseeing work on the famed Robie House in Hyde Park. Chicago Mag's Dennis Rodkin toured the home when it hit the market last year.
