How bizarre has the anti-development rhetoric in Lincoln Park gotten? "Changing the zoning from residential to commercial to allow a large supermarket to invade this area is a non-starter," said former 43rd Ward Ald. Bill Singer, without a trace of irony, during an anti-Webster Square rally yesterday. C'mon, Bill. Supermarkets don't invade neighborhoods. Besides, as commenters have pointed out, the proposed Fresh Market would be on Lincoln Avenue, one of the great commercial thoroughfares of the North Side. Developer David Goldman was also on the scene yesterday, saying, as he has been all along, that Sandz is working to refine their plan for the vacant Lincoln Park Hospital in an effort to please a group that has resolved to block the development.
