Surprise! NIMBYs Come Out in Opposition to Webster Square

New, 6 comments

Time to temper your expectations for Webster Square. Skyline, a neighborhood newspaper for the Near North Side, reports that a group of Lincoln Park residents vehemently oppose Sandz Development's plans to convert the defunct Lincoln Park Hospital into condos, offices and retail, and they might move to block it unless certain changes are made. A lively community meeting was held yesterday, where neighborhood residents "at times shouted over each other to speak their disdain for the plans." Mainly, they don't want the grocery store, which will bring more traffic and trucks to the 'hood.

"Ald. Vi Daley (43rd) told residents at a town hall meeting in January that she would block the project's advancement pending full buy-in from the neighborhood, which would likely require the deletion of retail from the plan and a markdown in residential unit density."Another neighborhood meeting will be held in late November, according to the article.
