Frank Lloyd Wright's Coonley House in Riverside Hits Market

New, 6 comments

Yesterday, we showed you a massive Prairie Style estate that's up for auction in Elburn. Here's a chance to own the real thing. FLW's 6,000 square-foot Coonley House just hit the market in Riverside, and the 5BD, 5BA home is listed for $2.89 million. (The listing has a nice slide show.) Dean Eastman, former director of the Argonne National Laboratory, is the seller, and he and his wife did some serious renovations to the place. According to the listing, the Eastmans fixed up the home's mechanicals and bathrooms, restored much of the artwork in the home, and fixed up the landscaping according to Jens Jenson's original design. When they commissioned the house more than a century ago, the Coonleys stroked Wright's ego by telling him that they found "the countenances of principle" in his work (whatever that means). "This was to me a great and sincere compliment," Wright wrote in his autobiography. "So I put my best into the Coonley House."
