The Hawks’ brand new 125,000-sqaure-foot Community Training Center will rise at the site formerly occupied by Malcolm X College on Chicago’s near west side.
According to a recent building permit issued for southeast corner of Ogden and Ashland, a 4-story building containing 47 rental units and garage parking for 58 automobiles is on the way.
The overhaul, which will be the first major renovation to the station since it opened fifty years ago, will ensure that the station is accessible from all entrances and will also include better platform lighting, security cameras, and train trackers.
Today, Chicago’s Plumbers Local 130 broke ground on a new three-story West Loop training facility to replace the neo-classical Plumbing Industry Center that was demolished in April.
In addition to two regulation size ice rinks with seating for 300 spectators each, the HOK-designed facility will also include new locker rooms, concessions, team fitness facilities, a nearly 24,000-square-foot green roof, and parking for 127 cars and 26 bicycles.
