A developer who currently owns an office building in the Gold Coast wants to expand the size of the structure to make room for new apartments. According to Crain's, the four story building at Clark and Division would receive a five story addition and the repurposed structure could contain up to 98 apartments total. On the ground level, the development would feature up to 10,000 square feet of retail space, which is roughly how much it currently has. The Gold Coast has been witnessing a boom of new rental units and developers are rushing like mad to add as many to the area as possible - up to 6,000 potential units in the next two years. However, receiving support from neighborhood residents and Alderman Fioretti will be a challenge to developers who are looking to cash in on the booming rental biz.
