This is getting silly. All appearances suggested DePaul wanted a McCormick Place-bordering site for its new Blue Demons basketball arena. Instead, The Tribune reports new evidence that the school is still oscillating between other candidate sites with a focus on the soon-to-be-vacated 22-acre Finkl & Sons steel plant in west Lincoln Park. Finkl chairman & CEO Bruce Liimatainen claims DePaul has been in contact with him even though he's not yet marketing the site. The city, too. A land ownership wrinkle has the potential to derail a South Loop deal. And DePaul doesn't seem too jazzed about the United Center. Although close by, the Finkl site is real estate that could and should host bigger things. [Trib, previously, photo: Ian Freimuth/Creative Commons]
