Just three short months after the City Council signed off on Sandz Development's plan to redevelop Lincoln Park Hospital, the development is getting another round of changes. Mayor Emanuel brokered a deal yesterday between Sandz and 43rd Ward Ald. Michelle Smith, resulting in some subtle changes to the plan. Now, 50,000 square feet of office space (out of a total 95,000) on the top floors of the building on Geneva will become apartments; a 40-unit building on Grant Place will become eight rowhouses; and delivery trucks for the grocery store will be banned from Webster. This probably won't be the last word on Webster Square — as Dennis Rodkin noted a couple months ago, a variation of this battle has been going on for some 27 years.
